More and more companies moving back to the U.S. are deciding to locate in Mississippi, according to a new report.

Reshoring Initiative’s 2024 and Q1 2025 report shows that Mississippi is among the top 10 states for jobs created by reshoring, which is defined by the initiative as the practice of relocating business operations back to the U.S. or direct foreign investment in the U.S..

In 2024, Mississippi ranked No. 7 in the country with 10,764 reshored jobs. Projected data for 2025, based on Q1 information, places the state at No. 3 on the list with 12,084 reshored jobs.

“This is another really impressive accomplishment for Mississippi,” Gov. Tate Reeves said. “We’re reclaiming thousands of jobs from overseas, which will result in a lot more opportunity for Mississippians.”

Reeves, in his second term as governor, has overseen a record $35 billion-plus in private sector investment since taking office. This includes major investments by Amazon, Milwaukee Tool, PACCAR, and Clark Beverage, among other companies.

“As global markets shift, Mississippi is setting records in economic development and breaking new ground across the state,” Reeves said. “We are truly helping strengthen America’s economy, and we’re just getting started. Mississippi continues to make history.”

Bill Cork, executive director of the Mississippi Development Authority, said the increasing number of reshored jobs in the state is the product of years of preparation. He attributes factors such as proximity to market, infrastructure improvements, pro-business policies, friendly tax incentives, and the impact of President Donald Trump-induced tariffs.

“As Mississippi’s inbound FDI strategy forms a cornerstone of our broader economic development blueprint, we’ve been methodically priming the landscape since 2020 to dominate the global FDI battlefield,” Cork explained. “This includes forging shovel-ready industrial sites and overhauling tax incentives into a bold, investor-friendly arsenal.

“While reshoring marks a key tactical engagement, the overarching campaign demands triumphing in the fierce worldwide race for capital inflows into America. Mississippi is claiming those wins, with this report underscoring our impressive track record of success.”

According to the report, the sectors driving reshoring growth include transportation equipment, electronics, and wood and paper products. These industries are among those experiencing the highest year-over-year increases in reshoring activity.
