Traffic on the Mississippi River near Memphis has reopened, but the I-40 bridge between Arkansas and Tennessee remains shut down to road traffic. A crack that goes through a steel beam crucial to the bridges’ integrity was found Tuesday. More than 45 tug boats and 700 barges had been idled as a result, and there were concerns that an extended closure would hurt the economy in the region, and have ripple effects on the supply chain.
