Educational, fun-filled events are coming to the capital city as the Mississippi Science Fest (MSF) is set to return to Jackson’s LeFleur Museum District from Friday, September 15 through Sunday, September 17.
The LeFleur Museum District will offer exhibitors, special events, and programs at these four sites: the Mississippi Children’s Museum, the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science, the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Museum, and the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum.
According to the Mississippi Children’s Museum Director of Education Monique Ealey, MSF aims to promote areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to young people through hands-on experience from experts in their respective fields of study.
“The whole goal of the Mississippi Science Festival is to promote STEM education and so we invite exhibitors who are in the STEM industry,” Ealey said in an interview with SuperTalk’s Rebecca Turner. “They provide hands-on experiences for children and families when they come and they are also able to be introduced into the workforce. So, there’s some workforce development there.”
Major League Baseball executive, architect, and urban planner, Janet Marie Smith, is this year’s special guest speaker. Smith, a Jackson native, has built and managed renovations of several major and minor league baseball parks in the U.S. She was also inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in 2021.
In conjunction with the LeFleur Museum District’s MSF, the Mississippi Children’s Museum in Meridian will be offering “Science Saturday” on Saturday, September 17. More information on this year’s MSF can be found here.
