The potential for severe weather is expected due to Hurricane Delta, therefore Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson has announced revisions to the Mississippi State Fair schedule.
“Due to the inclement weather that is expected to accompany Hurricane Delta, we are planning schedule changes to events taking place Friday night and Saturday at the State Fair,” said Commissioner Gipson. “The safety of our fairgoers is our top priority, and we have made these changes with that purpose in mind. Our thoughts and prayers are with the citizens of Louisiana as well as our own folks along the coast and others in the storm’s path.”
Commissioner Gipson announced the State Fair will close early tonight, October 9, with the gates closing at 10:00 p.m. and the Midway closing at 11:00 p.m.
In addition, the gates to the State Fair will reopen at noon tomorrow, October 10, instead of the previously scheduled 9:00 a.m. This closure will ensure guests and operators will not be present during the peak hours of the storm and allow time to safely secure the Fairgrounds.
The livestock shows and events will continue as scheduled Friday, October 9, through Saturday, October 10. The Coliseum will be available as a refuge station for anyone on the Fairgrounds if weather necessitates it. Masks and sanitizer will be in the Coliseum, along with law enforcement, to ensure their safety both from the storm and to mitigate COVID-19 concerns.
