Even though the outcome wasn’t what either Mississippi State or Southern Miss baseball wanted during this past weekend’s regional play, a long list of players are being awarded for their stellar postseason play.
Starting in the Charlottesville Regional, five Bulldogs were named to the all-regional team.
- OF Dakota Jordan (10-for-19, 9 RBI, 6 runs)
- 1B Hunter Hines (7-for-16, 5 RBI, 2 runs)
- SS David Mershon (8-for-15, 2 RBI, 7 runs)
- OF Bryce Chance (6-for-17, 2 RBI, 2 runs)
- P Khal Stephen (8.0 innings pitched, 7 hits, 2 runs, 10 strikeouts, 0 walks)
Mississippi State, who had not been in the postseason since its 2021 national title run, lost to Virginia 9-3 in the regional final.
Over in the Knoxville Regional, three Golden Eagles were named to the all-regional team.
- SS Ozzie Pratt (7-for-20, 5 RBI, 2 runs)
- OF Slade Wilks (7-for-16, 2 RBI, 5 runs)
- P Niko Mazza (9.0 innings pitched, 2 hits, 0 runs)
Interestingly enough, Mazza was the only unanimous election to the Knoxville Regional all-tournament team after arguably the best performance of his collegiate career came against Northern Kentucky.
Both Mississippi State and Southern Miss will now head into a vital offseason with the transfer portal opening up on June 3 and the MLB Draft set for July 14-16.
