Mississippi State fought through some late inning drama to sweep its first SEC series of the 2021 campaign, holding off Kentucky for a 4-3 win at a sun soaked Dudy Noble Field on Saturday.

State used some early power, getting solo home runs from Luke Hancock in the 2nd and Logan Tanner in the 4th to push out to a 4-1 lead. The Wildcats would tack on a run in the fifth and another in the eighth to give themselves a chance for a series salvaging win, but despite getting runners 1st and 2nd in the top of the ninth, could not find the clutch hit to take the lead.

On the mound, State got a solid start from Jackson Fristoe, who got the win with 5 innings pitched. The freshman gave up 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 8. Parker Stinett was given the ninth inning, and battled through an error and a walk to get the final three outs and pick up his first save of the season. Bulldog pitching struck out 12 Wildcat batters on the day.

State improves to 19-7, 5-4 in the SEC. The Bulldogs will be back in action on Tuesday as Southern University travels to Starkville, first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM.
