It looked going into the bottom of the seventh that Mississippi State was playing its worst game of the 2021 season, trailing Texas A&M 7-3 behind poor defense and anemic hitting from the bottom of the order. It was at that point that things turned around, as State would score the final 5 runs of the game to take an 8-7 win via a Tanner Allen walk off bomb in the bottom of the 12th.

The Bulldogs grabbed an early 2-0 lead, but a Kamren James error led to an Aggie three spot in the top of the fourth. State would tie the game on a Luke Hancock RBI groundout in the fifth, but A&M would strike for four unanswered, with two deep shots putting the Aggies up 7-3 going into the stretch. In the bottom half of that frame, James would walk and Hancock would single, leading up to a Logan Tanner blast to cut the visitor’s lead to 1.

State would get a leadoff double to start the ninth from Brad Cumbest, who advanced on a fielder’s choice then scored on a sacrifice fly by Logan Forsythe. Landon Sims pitched the final three innings to get the win, striking out 7 batters. Allen’s walk off solo shot would give the Bulldogs their fourth win in the final at bat of the year.
State improves to 30-10 on the season, 12-7 in the SEC. The Bulldogs will play a doubleheader tomorrow at Dudy Noble Field, first pitch of game one is scheduled for 2 PM, the second game is tentatively scheduled for 6 PM.
