Mississippi storm victims awarded millions in FEMA relief, applications still open

Survivors of the March storms that killed seven Mississippians, injured nearly 30 more, and dealt nearly $20 million in damage have been given more than $4.3 million in federal relief. 

For those who have not received relief from FEMA, applications are still available.

More than 1,800 residents in 19 counties have applied for assistance. A host of disaster recovery locations are still open for those in further need, which are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

*Two mobile disaster centers are also open in Montgomery County from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the same days. 

In a statement Monday, MEMA officials reminded those affected by the storms that they are still encouraged to apply even if they are insured. Unemployment assistance is also available for victims of the storms in 11 counties through the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.
