Missississippi Dept. of Public Safety launches Mississippi Mobile ID

You can already access so much through your phone, and with the new Mississippi Mobile ID app, you’ll have a digital version of your physical driver’s license.  The Mississippi Department of Public Safety partnered with IDEMIA on the project, which has already been used in other states.

Mississippi Mobile ID will allow you to control your identity through a free app on your smartphone.  It’s totally voluntary, you can choose to continue to rely upon your physical ID.

According to the DPS, advantages include convenience, security and privacy.  It can be used as a legal form of identity verification anywhere in the state you’d usually show your license.  It basically expands your ability to provide proof of ID online.  Your information would remain secure, and could only be accessed with your fingerprint or face ID.  Unlike a physical drivers license, you’d be able to choose what information you share for age-verified transactions.

“The Mississippi Department of Public Safety is committed to utilizing technology to enhance
the quality of our residents’ lives,” said Commissioner Sean Tindell. “While Mississippi Mobile
ID will be voluntary, it is our belief that residents will find this new service to be convenient,
secure, and private.”

It will also benefit law enforcement, by allowing an officer approaching your vehicle to interact via Bluetooth with your phone.  They’d know who you are before they even approach your vehicle.
