Exactly six minutes before Morgan Wallen was supposed to take the stage Sunday night in Oxford, fans at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium received surprising news on the video board.
“Ladies and gentlemen, unfortunately Morgan has lost his voice and is unable to perform tonight – Therefore tonight’s show has been cancelled. Please make your way safely to the stadium exits. Refunds for tonight’s event will be available at point of purchase.”
In what was supposed to be the second leg of Wallen’s two-night stint in Oxford, the country music star quickly went to social media to explain what had happened.
“After last night’s show, I started losing my voice, so I spent the day resting up, talking to my doctor, and working through my vocal exercises trying to get better. I really thought I’d be able to take the stage and it kills me to deliver this so close to showtime, but my voice is shot and I am unable to sing,” a portion of Wallen’s Instagram story read. “I am so sorry, I promise you guys I tried everything I could.”
Wallen, who kicked off his “One Night At A Time” tour on March 15, is the currently the No. 1 country singer in the world. The 29-year-old recently made history as the first artist to have three spots inside Billboard Country Airplay’s Top 10 since the chart launched in 1990.
