MRA football’s Herbert Davis released from hospital

After three days in the hospital, Madison-Ridgeland Academy head football coach Herbert Davis is heading home.

Davis, a three-time championship-winning coach battling kidney failure, posted the news to social media Thursday afternoon.

Even though the Patriots are set to kick off the 2023 season Thursday night at Parklane Academy, Davis is not expected to coach in the game. He had been battling an infection at the intensive care unit of Baptist Memorial Hospital since Monday.

MRA will be led by associate head coach and defensive coordinator Danny White as the team awaits Davis’ return. White, going into his sixth season with the Patriots, has helped the team to three MAIS state championships (2019, 2020, 2021) since joining the high school ranks after 12 years as an assistant coach at Belhaven University.
