A torrential downpour Thursday forced school closures across the coast. Flash flooding during the early morning hours made travel too treacherous. Some businesses had to shut down to clean up and dry out before they could open their doors again. Families had to be rescued from floodwaters on several occasions, and forecasters are expecting moderate to major flooding for rivers, with more rain on the way.
According to the weather authorities at Keesler Air Force Base, more than 11 inches of rain has fallen in Biloxi since Saturday and 4.72 inches fell on Thursday alone. That one day total is more than the 4.6 inches of rain the city typically experiences in the entire month of April.
