After the number of new cases dipped on Monday, the Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 1,074 new COVID-19 cases.

Today’s report brings Mississippi’s total up to 62,199. With the confirmation of 42 additional deaths, 1,753 Mississippians have now passed away from the virus.

Currently, there are 172 active outbreaks in Mississippi long-term care facilities. This represents a sizable decrease after that number had climbed up to 202 in Saturday’s report.

Hospital data has not been updated on the MSDH website since July 31st.

As of Monday, MSDH was able to estimate that 42,391 Mississippians have recovered from COVID-19.

With the continued rise in cases in Mississippi, Governor Tate Reeves is expected to make an announcement related to the reopening of schools this afternoon at 2:30. This comes just days after State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs publicly expressed support for delaying the reopening process until September.

The Corinth School District, one of the first to return to the classroom, has already confirmed 5 cases within Corinth High School.
