For the first time since March 25th, the Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting over 300 new cases of COVID-19.
The latest report of 317 new cases brings the state’s total up to 307,836. With the confirmation of 23 additional deaths, 7,119 Mississippians have passed away from the virus.
*MSDH Note: 17 deaths occurred between February 3 and April 7, identified from death certificate reports.
Overall hospitalizations did see a slight increase in the latest data from the MSDH as did the state’s 7-day rolling average of new cases after briefly dipping below 200.
As of Monday, an estimated 297,362 Mississippians have recovered from COVID-19.
Both the CDC and the FDA are recommending a “pause” in the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine out of an abundance of caution. This comes after six reported U.S. cases of a rare and severe type of blood clot in individuals who received the one-dose vaccine. State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs urges Mississippians not to worry if they’ve already gotten the shot.
