MSDH confirms 675 new COVID-19 cases, 8 additional deaths

The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 675 new cases of COVID-19.

Today’s report is a combination of cases from Saturday (228) & Sunday (447) and brings the state’s total up to 115,763. With the confirmation *8 additional deaths, 3,263 Mississippians have passed away from the virus.

*MSDH Note: 4 COVID-19 related deaths occurred between August 29 and October 6, identified from death certificate reports.

At this time, hospital data has not been updated since Friday.

Later today, Governor Tate Reeves will hold a press briefing to provide the latest on the state’s effort to combat what State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs called a “fall surge” last week.

Governor Reeves’ latest executive order mandates that Mississippi hospitals must delay elective procedures if they are unable to maintain 10% of their capacity for COVID-19 patients. Stricter guidelines were also placed on the following nine counties:

Chickasaw, Claiborne, DeSoto, Forrest, Itawamba, Jackson, Lamar, Lee, and Neshoba

In these counties, indoor social gatherings will be limited to 10 people or less and outdoor social gatherings will be limited to 50. Masks are required while indoors and when social distancing is not possible.
