The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting the highest case total of the week.

Today’s report of 763 new COVID-19 cases brings the state’s total up to 299,887. With the confirmation of *19 additional deaths, 6,883 Mississippians have passed away from the virus.

*MSDH Note: 12 deaths occurred between January 26 and March 4, identified from death certificate reports.

Overall hospitalizations remain low but did see a slight increase in the latest data from the MSDH.

As of this morning, over 20,000 first dose vaccination appointments remain available at covidvaccine.umc.edu. Thursday, Governor Tate Reeves explained that the longer these remain unfilled, the more likely it is that eligibility will be expanded to all Mississippians “very, very soon.”

Currently, those over 50, teachers, first responders, healthcare workers and those with underlying health conditions are eligible.
