The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting a record-high 91 COVID-19-related deaths.
Today’s report also includes 1,767 new cases, bringing the state’s total up to 225,444. The confirmation of the *91 additional deaths, 4,975 Mississippians have now passed away from the virus.
*MSDH Note: 15 COVID-19 related deaths occurred between December 10 and December 30, identified from death certificate reports.
During Monday’s press briefing, State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs and Governor Tate Reeves indicated that the number of overall hospitalizations, patients in ICU and on ventilators have reached all-time highs.
Additionally, the MSDH has announced an update to the state’s vaccine distribution plan. This update now allows Mississippians over the age of 75 to have access to the vaccine starting next week with those over the age of 65 becoming eligible the following week.
To date, 23,511 Mississippians have received the vaccine.
