MSDH issues emergency suspension of Guntown daycare following infant death

The Mississippi State Department of Health is stepping in after a child was found unresponsive at a Guntown daycare.

First reported by WCBI, the department sent a notice of emergency suspension to SunShine’s Childcare and Preschool following the death of the five-month-old infant.

A daycare employee discovered the baby Tuesday afternoon. The child was rushed to a local hospital but did not survive.

Authorities are continuing to investigate what led up to the infant’s passing. An autopsy will be performed at the state medical examiner’s office to determine the cause of death.

Lee County Coroner Carolyn Green does not suspect foul play to be a factor.
