A resident of Madison, Turner graduated from Jackson State in 2003 before attending Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tenn. He then completed his residency at the University of Mississippi Medical School (UMMC).

Since his time at UMMC, Turner has served as a medical director for several hospice services in and around the Jackson Metro area. He has also served as the vice-chief of internal medicine at St. Dominic Hospital, as well as the medical director for Walk of Faith Ministry.

“Dr. Turner will be a tremendous addition to our staff,” State Health Officer Dr. Dan Edney said. “He’s highly respected in his field and very involved in the community. Service is not just what he does — it’s who he is.”

Turner has also been the recipient of numerous awards within the medical field, including Best Doctor of Jackson by the Jackson Free Press and Distinguished Physician Award from Meharry Medical College.
