The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 862 new cases of COVID-19.
Today’s report brings Mississippi total number of cases up to 37,542. 1,272 Mississippians have now passed away from the virus following the confirmation of 23 additional deaths.
The number of active outbreaks in Mississippi long-term care facilities rose from 106 to 121 in the latest report.
Hospitalizations also continue to climb as over 800 COVID-19 patients are currently hospitalized across the state. ICU bed and ventilator usage have also increased.
Monday, Governor Tate Reeves and State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs refuted several rumors related to the state’s rising number of COVID-19 cases, including case inflation from repeated testing and antibody tests. The governor also pointed out that ‘herd immunity’ is not a feasible possibility.
