The “MTV Turns Forty: I Still Want My MTV” exhibit at the GRAMMY Museum Mississippi has been such a success that the museum is extending its run time through the end of 2022.

“I’m delighted that the exhibition celebrating the 40th anniversary of MTV has been such a huge hit in my home state of Mississippi that they’ve decided to keep it there a little longer,” said Bob Pittman, Chairman and CEO of iHeart Media, who led the team that created and launched MTV in 1981. “Now more visitors, from the state of Mississippi and beyond, will be able to experience this anniversary celebration and learn about the launch of MTV and its ties to Mississippi.”

The comprehensive exhibit, which was originally supposed to end on August 1, includes:

  • Interviews and artifacts from the four remaining MTV VJs
  • Interview footage, notes, sketches, and more about the idea for MTV from Pittman and John Sykes, both members of the “Initial 8” MTV Executive Team
  • Artifacts and memorabilia from Jon Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Sting, Run-D.M.C., Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, and more
  • Spotlights on many of the pivotal moments in MTV’s programming history from Yo! MTV Raps! and MTV Unplugged to Beavis and Butt-head and Jersey Shore
  • Initial exhibit sketches from the late Lucy Janoush, founding board member of the GRAMMY Museum Mississippi
