Students at Natchez High School are being welcomed back to school with a brand-new facility.

On Monday, parents, educators, and community leaders gathered to hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil the new high school to the public.

Natchez Mayor Dan Gibson stated that the facility is the result of hard work while pointing out the adversity leaders have had to overcome to create a state-of-the-art learning center for students in the area.

“It’s not a day for ‘out with the old and in with the new’ because if it were not for all of those who have strived so much to build the system, to work through the challenges of integration in bringing this community together to a place where now we can celebrate this amazing, new facility together as one Natchez — if it were not for those leaders — we would not be here today,” Gibson said.

U.S. Representative Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., boasted that the new high school is a shining light and example for other educational systems to model in the future.

“Children in this community will have bragging rights that they go to a facility that the taxpayers of this community invested in because they wanted them to be the best and brightest that Adams County has to offer,” Thompson stated. “Now, you have bragging rights that you have the best facility money can buy for your children and that’s something to be proud of.”

Natchez High School officially welcomed students to the facility Tuesday morning.
