No foul play is suspected after a man was found dead in the Ross Barnett Reservoir on Saturday night.
Reservoir Police informed WLBT that an unoccupied boat was spotted floating near the rocks at the control house on the upper spillway in Brandon. Police on the scene said further investigation resulted in a body being pulled from the water.
The person was identified as Steve Cermak, 62, of Brandon. The report added that all indications show Cermak suffered from a medical emergency before falling into the water and drowning. According to sources, Cermak was a beloved member of the reservoir community with many referring to him as “Scooba Steve.”
Police noted that no signs of alcohol being involved were present at the scene.
