Notice Kayleigh Clark wasn’t on American Idol this week? Here’s where she was

If you tuned in to American Idol this week and were wondering where Mississippi native Kayleigh Clark was, well we now have an answer.

Clark, a 17-year-old aspiring country music singer out of Sumrall, revealed on Facebook that she actually had COVID-19 when the performance and duet rounds were taking place. However, the judges allowed her to perform from her hotel room and she was able to make it through Hollywood week and onto the showstopper round.

“Now that performance and duet rounds have come to an end, I can fill you all in on my situation,” Clark wrote. “My Hollywood week experience was just a little different than what my friends were able to experience. I was diagnosed with Covid and got really sick, so my auditions were held from my room virtually. Staying in my room fighting fever, chills, cough, and body aches…… I was still able to make it through the performance AND the duet round.”

As for the boys from Monroe County, Colin Stough and Zachariah Smith are also heading to the showstopper round, even though Smith gave viewers a scare when he and partner Isaac Brown weren’t able to learn the words of Elton John’s “I’m Still Standing” in time for the duet round.

With a little encouragement from the judges and a lot of improv, both Smith and Brown were able to overcome and advance to the next round.

American Idol season 21 will continue this Sunday, April 9 at 8/7c on ABC.
