An investigation has been launched after an off-duty Hinds County deputy hit and killed a pedestrian with his vehicle Friday night.
According to Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones, the deputy was traveling in a county vehicle on Siwell Road just before 6:15 p.m. when he struck the pedestrian and fatally wounded him.
Fatal accident investigation: A HCSO Deputy in a county vehicle traveling north on Siwell Rd. just north of Willowood Blvd. struck a pedestrian in the roadway fatally wounding him. The crash is being investigated by MS Highway Patrol. Deputy taken to hospital for minor injuries.

The pedestrian has since been identified as Darrell Shoulders, 34. Jones said he died on the scene.
The cause of the crash is being investigated by the Mississippi Highway Patrol. The deputy’s name has not been released at this time, but we do know that they were transported to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
