One officer has been injured and one person reported missing from out of state has been located after a chase involving law enforcement began in Pearl ended in Jackson.
According to Pearl public information officer Frank Hutton, police on Thursday were informed about a vehicle traveling on Interstate 20 that was listed through the National Crime Information Center as carrying a missing juvenile from North Carolina.
Once officers discovered the vehicle, they attempted to stop it on I-20 westbound near Airport Road. The driver of the car did not stop for police.
Law enforcement initiated a chase into Jackson city limits and a Pearl squad vehicle happened to be the subject of an accident on I-55 at Waterworks Curve. An officer was injured in the wreck and taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center for treatment.
The chase continued with the driver of the vehicle losing control on Woodrow Wilson Avenue, striking other automobiles and wrecking in front of the children’s hospital.
Officers then arrested the unidentified suspect and charged the individual with felony fleeing. The suspect is being held in the Rankin County Jail
The juvenile who was reported missing out of North Carolina was recovered safely by police. Authorities reportedly made contact with the juveniles’ parents as well as officials in North Carolina.
Capitol Police in Jackson continues to investigate the incident.
