Officials investigating after Columbus man dies in police custody

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is looking into the death of a Columbus man in police custody.

Jeremy Finch, 39, was tased twice on Friday before going into cardiac arrest, according to WCBI.

Columbus police had been called to the 600 block of Avenue B after reports of a nude man and possibly an assault. Upon arrival, officers are said to have difficulty arresting Finch when he became uncooperative and combative.

Finch was then tased before being tased again as emergency medical personnel attempted to treat him. He died on the way to a nearby hospital.

When SuperTalk Mississippi News reached out to the Department of Public Safety, a spokesperson confirmed that an investigation into the situation is underway. However, no comment could be made at this time.
