Officials will gather in Madison County on Monday morning for a groundbreaking ceremony for Amazon Web Services.

AWS is investing over $10 billion into two hyperscale data centers, one at the Madison County Mega Site and the other on the Costas Property west of Tougaloo College and near County Line Road in Ridgeland. Republican Gov. Tate Reeves signed legislation in late January, opening the door for the tech giant to locate in Mississippi.

As part of the deal to bring AWS to Mississippi, lawmakers needed to appropriate $44 million for infrastructure costs while loaning the county $215.1 million to ensure the project gets done within the next five to seven years.

The two data centers are expected to create over 1,000 jobs with at least 800 of the positions being permanent jobs that include an annual salary of $70,000.

Shovels will hit the ground at 9 a.m. at the Madison County Mega Site located at 108 Walker Drive in Canton.
