University of Mississippi Chancellor Glenn Boyce has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Board of Governors and Board of Directors, as announced by SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey on Monday.
“Glenn Boyce’s experience and understanding of issues across the national landscape of intercollegiate athletics will be beneficial in these important board positions at a critical time in the history of college sports,” Sankey said, per a press release. “The SEC is fortunate to have a leader like Chancellor Boyce representing the conference on the important issues facing all of us in college athletics.”
The NCAA Board of Governors is the highest governing body in college athletics and is composed of institutional chief executive officers who oversee issues such as ensuring each division and conference operates consistently with the basic purposes, fundamental policies, and general principles set forth by NCAA bylaws.
The NCAA Board of Directors is responsible for strategy and policy, plus overseeing legislation and management of the division. It focuses on strategic topics in college sports and their relationship to higher education.
Boyce, who has been chancellor in Oxford since 2019, is now one of 16 voting members on both boards. Since his hiring, Boyce has worked to make vast improvements to collegiate athletics and support all teams and student-athletes at Ole Miss. His appointment to the NCAA leadership roles comes at a time of significant change and fluidity in collegiate athletics, as new policies reshape student-athlete rights.
“At Ole Miss, we value the vitality of our athletics programs and understand how athletics experiences draw people together, create community, and support aspirations of our talented student-athletes,” Boyce said. “The work of the NCAA is important to ensuring that all levels of collegiate programs continue to thrive and provide unparalleled opportunities and experiences.”
Boyce begins a four-year appointment to the Board of Governors and Board of Directors effective immediately.
