Mississippi’s two largest universities have dropped their mask mandates.
Ole Miss and Mississippi State both announced on Friday that masks are now optional outside of healthcare and instructional (classrooms, labs, studios) settings. All other indoor areas are mask-optional.
Both schools made the announcement in accordance with the Mississippi State Department of Health’s decision to allow institutions of higher learning to modify mitigation strategies.
The updated mask policy went into effect on Friday, February 11 for Mississippi State and Monday, February 14 for Ole Miss.
Regarding the state’s other six public universities, the schools plan to continue to require masks in all indoor spaces for the time being.
