Ole Miss suspends team activities until December 9th

Ole Miss football has suspended team activities until next Wednesday, December 9th.

Earlier this week, the Rebels announced that a small number of positive tests among staff members and players resulted in the cancellation of practice and that additional testing and contact tracing were underway. This morning, Ole Miss Athletics issued a statement explaining that the identification of “a few new positive COVID-19 cases” each day resulted in the suspension of team activities.

“With a few new positive COVID-19 cases being identified each day, the Ole Miss football program will pause team activities until at least Wednesday, December 9. This seven-day suspension is in the best interest of student-athlete and staff safety and came after consulting with the MSDH. Testing will continue during this period, and the appropriate health measures will be taken for those student-athletes and staff members affected by the virus. Department leadership will remain in talks with the Southeastern Conference on the effects of this suspension on the scheduling of upcoming games.”

The Rebels’ matchup with LSU this Saturday had already been postponed due to a reshuffling of the schedule by the league office. According to SI’s Ross Dellenger, this latest development could cause an issue with next week’s matchup with Texas A&M—a game that was originally postponed due to an outbreak within the Aggie football program.
