There’s a new #1 team in college baseball.
With wins over #10 TCU (7-3) and #3 Texas Tech (5-4) in the State Farm College Baseball Showdown over the weekend, Ole Miss has taken over the top spot in the latest rankings from Baseball America—the first time in program history. The Rebels made the jump from #4 after previously top-ranked Florida dropped their opening series to Miami and #2 UCLA lost two of three to San Francisco.
Riding an 18-game winning streak that dates back to the 2020 season that was shut down due to the onset of the pandemic, the Rebels will wrap things up in Arlington this afternoon at 2:30 against Texas.
Mississippi State, who stayed put at #8, took down the Longhorns 8-3 in their opener before falling to TCU 3-2 on Sunday at Globe Life Field. The Bulldogs are set to face the Red Raiders this morning with first pitch set for 11 a.m.
In Hattiesburg, Southern Miss split Sunday’s season-opening doubleheader with Northwestern State. The series finale begins today at noon from Pete Taylor Park.
