On this day in history, Mississippi’s hottest temperature was recorded

As temperatures in Mississippi remain high, at least it’s not as hot as it was on this day 92 years ago.

The highest temperature ever recorded in Mississippi was on July 29, 1930, in Holly Springs when it was a sweltering 115 degrees.

To put that number more into perspective, here are a few facts that came up when I googled what happens at 115 degrees:

  • Vital nutrients are stripped from food at 115 degrees
  • A rare prime rib can be served and eaten at 115 degrees
  • Chocolate scorches and yeast dissolves at 115 degrees
  • The vascular activity inside a wine vine dies at 115 degrees

So much for wine and chocolate…
