An investigation is underway after an officer-involved shooting left one person dead in McComb.
According to a news release, officers with the McComb Police Department responded Thursday to a report of a suspicious vehicle. When they arrived at the location near 212 25th Street, two people were said to have gotten out of the reported vehicle. One person then brandished a weapon, prompting officers to discharge their firearms.
The armed individual was killed, and another was taken into custody.
However, the vehicle in question fled the scene as authorities believe three to four additional suspects were inside at the time of the incident. Law enforcement is asking the public to be on the lookout for a 2016 Dodge Charger with the Mississippi tag number, PJP357. It was last seen traveling west on Highway 98 in McComb.
Law enforcement considers the individuals armed and dangerous. Anyone who spots the vehicle is asked to call 911 immediately.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case. Once the agency’s investigation is complete, agents will turn their findings over to the attorney general’s office for further review.
