The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Tuesday night that one person is dead after an hours-long standoff in Raymond.

Law enforcement arrived at a home in the 3600 block of Bill Downing Road around 2 p.m. Inside was an “armed and barricaded subject,” who negotiators were trying to reach. At 5:10 p.m., Sheriff Tyree Jones said the situation had been contained, but the subject had yet to surrender.

Jones provided another update at 8:07 p.m., writing on social media that the subject was deceased. No information was provided as to how the subject died or how law enforcement got involved. However, Jones did note that the subject was a 52-year-old white male, and no one else was inside the home.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the Hinds County coroner have been requested to the scene.
