Deer hunters are now able to purchase permits to participate in Mississippi’s short velvet buck season.
Those looking to hunt the specific breed of white-tailed bucks will have the opportunity to do so for three days from September 13-15. But first, a permit must be acquired. Passes are available anywhere hunting and fishing licenses are sold throughout the state.
The cost of the permit for Mississippi residents is $10. For non-residents, this permit is included in a $100 deer pass. This three-day archery season is only on private lands and only legal bucks may be harvested. Hunters are required to report any harvest and submit chronic wasting disease samples.
