A sky-high memorial has been dedicated to the chickens that died after an 18-wheeler carrying them crashed on Interstate 20 in Jackson last week.
The memorial, which was placed near the site of the crash by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), will contain a banner displaying a picture of a chicken and the words, “See the Individual. Go Vegan.”
“Imprisoned in tiny crates thrown onto the side of the road, many of these chickens must have been crushed or suffocated to death,” PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman said. “PETA urges everyone to go vegan to help prevent birds from being crammed into trucks in the first place.”
The truck driver was said to have been traveling to a hen farm in Moselle from Texas with four dogs. Both the driver and passenger riding in the vehicle were taken to the hospital while the trucking company collected the chickens.
