A Mississippi woman and her parents have been arrested out of state for the murder of a Tippah County man.

On Thursday, deputies from the Smyth County, Va., Sheriff’s Office assigned to the U.S. Marshals Service’s (USMS) capital area regional fugitive task force, along with other USMS officers, arrested Jeffrey Dean Spence and Karen Elizabeth Spence for the murder of Kirby Carpenter.

Carpenter was found dead from gunshot wounds in his home on December 2, 2022.

The USMS received a request to attempt to locate the suspects who had warrants out of the north Mississippi county. Jeffrey and Karen Spence are being held at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail – Abingdon Facility while they wait for extradition back to Mississippi.

Their daughter, Caitlin Spence — who had been in a relationship with Carpenter — was taken into custody by authorities in Pennsylvania and will be transported back to the Magnolia State, WTVA reports.

Tippah County sheriff’s investigator and coroner Chris McCallister informed the TV station that Caitlin Spence and Carpenter lived with one another at the time of the victim’s killing.

All three suspects are charged with capital murder. This is a developing story. More details will be provided when made available.
