The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks saw a record-low number of boating-related incidents over the recent 4th of July holiday weekend.
As part of Operation Dry Water, Conservation Officers were active statewide from July 2-5 conducting saturation patrols and responded to three boating incidents with no fatalities. There were no reported drownings across the state.
MDWFP concluded the holiday period with the following statistics:
- 272 total citations
- 14 alcohol and drug violations
- 11 BUI arrests
- 2,098 safety checks
ODW is a year-round campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of boating under the influence.
