Governor Tate Reeves announced three new appointments for the positions of executive director for the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP), executive director for the Mississippi Public Utilities Staff (MPUS), and district attorney for the 17th Circuit Court District.
“Each of the individuals being appointed today has a long track record of distinguished public service,” Reeves said. “I have the utmost confidence in their abilities and look forward to seeing all that they will accomplish in their roles.”
Lynn Posey, the current interim director for MDWFP, was the first to be named as the department’s next executive director. Posey previously served as a Mississippi State Senator for almost two decades as well as a member of the Public Service Commission for 16 years. Since then, Posey has held the position of chairman of MDWFP for 16 years. Posey will be replacing the longest-serving executive director for MDWFP, Dr. Sam Polles, who retired from the position in February.
Representative Charles Jim Beckett was next to be named the newest executive director for the Mississippi Public Utilities Staff after serving in the House of Representatives for 18 years. Beckett will be replacing former director Sally Doty, who was appointed by Reeves in April to serve as the first director of the Office of Broadband Expansion and Accessibility. Prior to becoming executive director for MPUS, Beckett had been a Public Utilities Committee member for eight years.
The last to be announced was Robert Morris III, who will be taking the position of district attorney for the 17th Circuit Court District. Morris served as assistant district attorney for eight years and operated a private practice for 19 years before accepting the role, which was formerly held by the late John Champion for two decades.
