A murder suspect out of Baton Rouge is reportedly dead after leading police on a chase on I-10 in Harrison County on the Mississippi Coast.
30-year-old Eric Derell Smith was accused of killing two people in East Baton Rouge this morning before fleeing the scene with a 4-month-old baby in the car. According to WLOX’s Andrés Fuentes, Smith was firing shots at police while holding the baby at one point after the chase crossed into Mississippi.
Fuentes goes on to report that Smith is dead but it’s unclear how he died at this time. The child is reportedly in stable condition at a local hospital.
A post from the EBRSO identified the murder victims as Smith’s ex-girlfriend 32-year-old Christin Parker and her 26-year-old nephew Brandon Parker
