After a Mississippi inmate was on the run for two days before being captured by authorities last week, one person has been arrested for allegedly aiding the inmate in his run from the jail yard.
The Sunflower County Sheriff’s Department, which is where the Mississippi State Penitentiary is located, confirmed to Delta News TV that Jessie Tyler was taken into custody on accusations of helping Gregory Trigg escape. According to law enforcement, Tyler was a prison captain who accepted a bribe to leave Trigg’s cell door open.
While Tyler thought he was leaving the door open for Trigg to obtain contraband, according to law enforcement, the inmate instead met with a female acquaintance outside the prison who picked him up and drove him to Tulsa, Okla. Trigg was there from Monday, when he escaped, until Wednesday as law enforcement located him inside a local hotel.
Trigg is now facing additional charges for the escape. He was originally serving a six-decade sentence for an array of crimes including kidnapping, residential burglary, conspiracy, vehicle burglary, vehicle theft, and illegally possessing a firearm.
As for Tyler, the alleged counterpart in Trigg’s escape is booked in the Sunflower County Jail and charged with the aiding the escape of a felon. Sources told SuperTalk Mississippi News that more arrests connected to Trigg’s escape are expected.
The Mississippi Department of Corrections denied a request for comment “due to this situation being an ongoing investigation.”
