Results from Tuesday’s Congressional runoff & District 88 special election

The results are in from Tuesday’s elections in Mississippi. 

Republican runoff – MS 2nd Congressional District 

After qualifying for the runoff back on March 10th, Brain Flowers defeated Thomas Carey by a 70%-30% margin on Tuesday. Tuesday’s runoff sets up a general election ballot with Flowers facing incumbent Congressman Bennie Thompson (D) in November.

Special Election – House District 88 (Jasper & Jones) 

Robin Robinson received 65% of the vote to win the special election to fill the seat in the House vacated by freshman lawmaker Ramona Blackledge, who resigned in January due to a current statute that restricts lawmakers from drawing from their PERS retirements funds while serving in the legislature. 

Michael Walker finished in second with 33% of the vote. Jason Dykes, who previously withdrew his candidacy but still appeared on the ballot, received the remaining 2% of the vote. 

Turnout was low in both of Tuesday’s elections, according to the Secretary of State’s Office.
