On Monday morning, elected officials from across the state gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly expanded U.S. Highway 49.
The 7.5-mile stretch of Highway 49 from Florence to Richland has officially been opened to six lanes after nearly five years of being under construction.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced back in May that the department’s goal was to have the construction complete by the end of summer 2022.
