Pearl River Community College’s Kiln location is officially home to an Aviation Aerospace Workforce Academy.

A ceremonial ribbon-cutting was held at the center located near Hancock High School Career and Technical Center and the Stennis International Airport on Monday to celebrate the facility. Per Governor Tate Reeves, more than $21 million has been invested to build eight classrooms, five labs, and an 18,000-foot hangar to support aviation maintenance technology and unmanned systems technology programs.

Classes at the academy, which will facilitate career and technical education programs as well as workforce training on-site, will begin in mid-August.

Funding from the Mississippi legislature, the RESTORE Act, an EDA Disaster Supplemental grant, Gulf Coast Restoration money, and a Coast Electric Power Association grant made the school a reality.
