A disturbance at the Raymond Detention Center over the weekend is being attributed to gang activity.
According to Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones, a group of detainees attempted to break into the housing unit of rival gang members. No one was injured as officers quickly put a stop to the situation.
There was a disturbance at the Raymond Detention Center this evening amongst several detainees. Several law enforcement agencies responded and immediately took control of the situation. There were no breaches or public safety issues. A detention officer sustained minor injuries.

Amid initial reports of an officer being injured in the incident, Jones confirmed that one officer had been injured at the Raymond Detention Center but in an unrelated situation. The officer suffered minor injuries but is recovering.
There were no breaches, and the disturbance is not being considered a riot.
