A buyer for Singing River Health System (SRHS) has been announced by the Jackson County Board of Supervisors.
The Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System will take over the Mississippi Gulf Coast hospital system that was forced to sell due to financial losses stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are excited about the possibilities for healthcare in our region and believe the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System is the right choice,” Board of Supervisors President Ken Taylor said. “Fundamentally, they share our community values and have a mission to provide equal access to healthcare for all.”
In a release, SRHS officials ensured people that the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System, which serves Mississippi and Louisiana, plans to keep care local while investing in the community and its people.
“This is an exciting day for Singing River Health System,” SRHS CEO Tiffany Murdock said. “Our future with the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System ensures that Singing River will be able to meet the needs of our employees, patients, and community members for years to come. Together, we will build on the strong foundation Singing River has established since we first originated as Jackson County Hospital in 1931.”
The sale of SRHS, which is the second-largest employer in Jackson County, is expected to be made official this fall.
