After a delay on Wednesday, the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) is reporting 8,204 new cases of COVID-19 from January 11.

The latest report brings the state’s total number of cases to 616,972. With the confirmation of 26 additional deaths, 10,589 Mississippians have passed away from the virus. There are currently 294 ongoing outbreaks in long-term care facilities.

Tuesday’s 8,204 cases are the highest since the onset of the pandemic, a record that has been broken multiple times over the last two weeks.

On Monday morning, State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs said that over 2,500 testing appointments are currently open at MSDH testing sites. Click here to schedule an appointment if you think you may have COVID-19, and click here for the department’s full report.
