November’s midterm elections will be here before you know it, and Secretary of State Michael Watson is hoping to see a larger turnout this time around.
During the Congressional primaries back in June, a mere 11 percent of Mississippi voters showed out to the polls.
In order to increase that “discouraging” number, Watson and his office will be traveling across the state between now and November 8 working to register voters.
“We are doing voter registration drives all across the state, going to college football games, high school football games, different college campuses,” Watson said. “Making sure we get out and register folks to vote — balancing that with the integrity of the process — is really important to us.”
If you’re not registered to vote, you can do so by visiting your Circuit Clerk’s office, your Municipal Clerk’s office, or when you get your driver’s license at the Department of Public Safety. You can also register by filling out this form and mailing it to your Circuit Clerk.
Registration must be accomplished at least 30 days prior to the first election in which a citizen wishes to vote.
