Southern Miss athletic director Jeremy McClain will soon play a vital role in which baseball teams are chosen for the NCAA Tournament.
On Monday, McClain was announced as the newest member of the Division I Baseball Committee. The 10-person committee is tasked with selecting, seeding, and bracketing the 64-team tournament field each year. McClain will begin his four-year term on Sept. 1, 2024, and continue through Aug. 31, 2028.
“I am honored to be selected to serve on the Division I Baseball Committee for the next four years,” McClain said. “I look forward to working with the NCAA staff and a great group of committee members to serve our coaches and student-athletes and continue to help promote college baseball.”

On top of fielding the bracket, the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee has oversight on the operation of the Division I baseball championship in general. For example, the committee recently issued a memo to head coaches, warning them against the practice of canceling non-conference games to boost RPI. Additionally, the committee discusses and makes recommendations regarding legislation on sport-specific issues.
McClain was selected to the committee after being nominated by the Sun Belt Conference to represent a cross-section of Division I teams.
